145 contractors jostle for 2020 NYSC capital projects

A total of 145 contractors are jostling for 2020 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) capital projects across the nation.

The NYSC technical bid opening which took place at the conference hall of its national headquarters; the Yakubu Gowon House, Maitama, Abuja Thursday, recorded 145 contractors.

Some, however, witnessed some disqualifications of non-compliance with stipulated regulations.

Speaking after the bid opening exercise, Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim assured that the bid would still go through further scrutiny to eliminate mistakes.
Represented by the Deputy Director (Recurrent), Mrs. Adah Imoni, Gen. Ibrahim stated that NYSC will try as much as possible to monitor the process and ensure that due process is adhered to.
He said they will not deviate from the hallmark of transparency which the organisation was known for and that it was what makes NYSC procurement stand out.
After the exercise, as usual, opportunity was given for interaction, observations and questions. A handful of the contractors who were affected by the disqualification spree pleaded to be considered.
Following several pleas by those who were disqualified to be considered, secretary, Tender’s Board, Umar Abdul drew the attention of the contractors to Section 92 of the Public Procurement Act.
He said late submission is punishable by rejection as indicated on item number 6 of the advertorial. He noted that the law supersedes the plea and that if contractors had six weeks to work on the bid documents and were not able to put themselves together till the last moment, then NYSC should not be blamed for their inability to meet deadline.
