At least 120 Atiku Abubakar support groups yesterday declared their support for the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the March 28 Presidential elections
This is even as the presidency said that the former Vice President was on sabbatical in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Atiku supporters said they are dumping the APC because it is a house divided against itself.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the coordinator, Peter Ogar  said they were compelled to join the transformation train which elicit hope and assurances for the youth of Nigeria.

Receiving the group on behalf of PDP, the party Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus said “you are all in the right place, and I want to assure you that you have equal right with those who had been here for long.”

He told the group that they are free to participate in all the party activities, adding that “you are free to involve and engage in all the party activities and especially at this time when we are on the campaign and election is coming.”

He further said that “the opposition, especially the APC, in the coming days are deliberately packaging well misinformed and propaganda to be dished out to the public.”
According to him, “this propaganda is aimed at blackmailing either the President or leaders of the party.”

The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rurfai Alkali, said that Atiku was on sabbatical in the APC.

He maintained that though the former Vice President was in the opposition, he had always been a PDP man and expressed hope that he returned to it, before the general elections.

Alkali, however, called on Nigerians to ensure that they had their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) to enable them voter for President Goodluck Jonathan in the coming elections.

Also in his remarks, FCT Minister, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, while welcoming the group, described the APC, as “a party that was made up of characters that were not compatible.”

He stressed that the PDP, was however, not ready to join issues with the APC, adding that President Jonathan was one leader that had conquered sentiment in Nigerian politics.
