Over 1,000 begin PenCom enrollment in Kaduna

Over 1,000 federal civil servants from Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states, who are due for retirement in 2019, have commence their pre-retirement verification and enrollment with the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in Kaduna at the weekend.
This is just as the potential pensioners have urged the federal government to ensure quick payment of gratuity and allowances to the pensioners immediately after retirement to enable them sustain themselves and plan for the future.
The exercise holds between July 5 and 19 for the four states at the Kaduna Polytechnics.
Medically unfit employees are, however, exempted from the physical enrolment as their pension desk officers are expected to come with official letter of medical or mental unfitness from recognised government hospital.
The pensioners said awaiting their entitlement months after retirement could be frustrating, as it would be difficult to make ends meet without any income.
But immediate payment would enable them plan their future after work.
They also seek to know what they are due to receive to allow them plan ahead.
Speaking to journalists after her verification exercise, Mrs Pauline Idiogbe of NBTE Kaduna, who has spent 31 years in service but will be 60 next July, said the verification process was easy.
“They capture your data, you read it to be sure there is no mistake but after the verification and data capturing, what next?” Malam Salman Sani, who has been with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Katsina for 30 years, lauded the Pension Commission for making the process smooth and easy.
“The data capturing and verification exercise is well arranged.
“The desk officers came early, we submitted all our documents to the officers, who captured the data, the officers are friendly and they explain everything step by step in detail in such a way that you will understand.” The verification and enrolment, which is for all employees of treasury funded MDAs of the federal government is for workers due for retirement between January and December 2019 having attained age of 60 or maximum length of service, according to PenCom Head of Corporate Communications, Peter Aghahowa.
The affected employees are expected to come along with originals of their documents for sighting and submit photocopies for verification and enrolment.
The Pension Desk Officers of each MDA is expected to authenticate the documents and endorse the retirement bond registration form.
