10 months after, Yobe gov orders reopening of Geidam market

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has ordered the reopening of Geidam market after ten months of closure.

Buni, made the disclosure on Monday at a town hall meeting in Geidam.

The market which is the main economic activity in the area and one of the major markets in the state, was closed down by the military as a result of attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents.

In the past, there were several calls by the community leaders, civil society organisations, among others for the reopening of the market.

The visit by governor Buni to Geidam was his first since he took over the mantle of leadership of the state in May, 2019.

With the reopening of the market, over 5,000 youths are expected to gain employment.

Some residents who spoke to blueprint said the reopening of the market by the governor would help them regain their means of livelihood.
