No fewer than 10 persons, including members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) were seriously injured during a bloody clash with the notorious Gobe gang in Omi-Adio community of Ibadan on Monday evening.
It was gathered that the bloody clash erupted when Gobe gang reportedly led by one Sarafa repotedly attacked OPC members at Ido junction during which one OPC member, identified as Adigun was attacked and injured with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, machetes and broken bottles.
Sources in Omi Adio community said members of Gobe gang were at war with OPC members in the area for allegedly disturbing their operations in the community.
It was learnt that during the clash, members of the rampaging gang also inflicted injuries on passers – by, especially those waiting for commercial motorcycles back to their homes at the Ido junction.
However, the arrival of a team of policemen from Omi-Adio police station prevented the bloody clash from spreading to other nearby communities as the OPC members in the community had mobilised for further showdown with the suspected members of the gang in the area.
Speaking with newsmen yesterday over the Monday bloody clash, chairman of the Otunba Gani Adams led OPC in Ido local government area, Comrade Muritala Ifawale Adekola said the attack on the OPC members had been reported to the police at Omi-Adio police station.
Adekola stressed that Gobe gang members are criminals who OPC had in the past apprehended and handed over to the police for various criminal activities in the past but that on their returning from either police net or prison, the criminals organized themselves into a gang under the leadership of one Sarafa Gobe to wage war against OPC members in the community.
