‘1.5bn fraud:’ Court defers ruling on APC women leader’s bail

All Progressives Congress (APC) women leader in Edo state, Dr. Aisosa Amadasun, and four others would remain in prison custody till October 13, 2017, a Benin High Court has ruled.
Th e accused persons are standing trial in a N1.5 billion alleged fraud in the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Th e other accused included Adama Osabuohien, Adam Osabuohien, Prince Stephen Alao, Dove Momodu and Malam Ali Sulayman.
Th ey had, however, pleaded not guilty to the 50-count charge preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when the matter fi rst came up for hearing last Friday.
According to the anti-graft agency, the accused committed the off ence while serving as chairman and board members of SUBEB.
Th e EFCC also accused the defendants of using their offi ce to award contracts to their cronies.
At the resumed sitting yesterday, Justice Ohimai Oviagele turned down the bail applications fi led by counsel to the accused persons
