Political parties call for immediate sacking of Zamfara REC

Coalition of political parties in Zamfara state Wednesday  called on the federal government through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to as a matter of urgency remove the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Zamfara state branch, Hajiya Asama’u Sani Maikudi for allegedly  conniving with security agencies to conduct massive rigging during the last presidential and National Assembly election. 

 The coalition claimed that the REC favour the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidates in the state.

The governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, Alhaji  Sani Abdullahi Shinlafi who doubles as secretary of the coalition of political parties in Zamfara state said this while addressing a press conference in Gusau.

He said the coalition realized that the  last presidential and National Assembly election conducted in the state was full of irregularities and massive rigging and manipulation masterminded by the state REC who connived with state security agencies.   Consequently, he said the coalition have no options than to pass vote of no confidence on her and the state police commissioner.

“We are calling on the IGP , national chairman of INEC, Yakubu to change the state commissioner of police, Mr Celestine Okoye, and Hajiya Asama’u Sani Maikudi before the commencement of next governorship and states Assembly election in the state as we have no confidence in them,” he stated.

The Coalition of political parties also described the last presidential and National Assembly election in Zamfara state as unacceptable and called on the national chairman of INEC, Professor Yakubu to cancel the National Assembly election conducted in the state and fix another day for its rerun in the interest of democracy and people of the state.
