The protest by Ihima women in Okehi local government area of Kogi
state against the renewed political violence in the area which started
on Saturday has entered day four with the closure of central market in
the community.

The women in their large numbers have been on the street in the last
four days calling for total peace and retrieval of guns and other
dangerous weapons allegedly distributed to the youths of the area.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting women, Mrs Safiyat Abdulrahman
said they cannot go to the market while their community is on
firebecause of by the guns distributed by desperate politicians.

She stated that since the beginning of the political violence in the
community, many lives were lost and fifteen houses razed while
properties worth millions of naira were lost.  Several youths are
nursing the wounds sustained from gunshots.

Mrs Abdulrahman expressed worries that they can no longer seat at
their houses and watch their children killed and their houses and
other valuables burnt by the thugs who were armed to cause confusion
in the land in the name of politics.

“We the women of Ihima community have resolved to continue this
protest until the state government did the needful by retrieving all
the weapons given to our children to unleash terror on innocent
citizen.

“We are also calling on the perpetrators of the heinous crimes to
retrieve the guns before it snowballs to something else because we
have suffered untold hardship in the past as a result of clannish
crises,” she stated.
