Anambra state ‘factional’ speaker dumps APGA to APC

The Anambra state House of Assembly ‘factional’ Speaker, Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, on Tuesday, dumped the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).Uzoezie, while announcing his defection to APC at the floor of the assembly presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu, thanked members for their support when he was away.
The lawmaker allegedly emerged as the assembly speaker following purported impeachment of Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu, on November 13, 2018 by 22 out of 30 legislators.

This was followed by crises that led to sealing of the assembly complex for weeks and a suit instituted at the Federal High Court in Awka by Uzoezie, asking the court among other things to be declared authentic Speaker.

The two-term member representing Aguata II state constituency, while speaking to journalists thereafter, said he cross-carpeted to APC due to failure of his former party, APGA, to reverse his suspension.

The state APGA chapter had in a press statement issued at the heat of the assembly crises announced suspension of the lawmaker and others over their alleged involvement in the unsuccessful impeachment saga.

On the choice of APC, the lawmaker, who at APGA National Assembly party primary held last year failed to secure a ticket for Aguata Federal constituency, said it was his personal decision having waited for APGA to reverse his suspension for six months but to no avail.
