ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has urged the National Social Investment Office (NSIO) to introduce additional incentives into the school feeding programme.
AAN’s Country Director Ene Obi, who said this at the launch of the Third party monitoring report of the National Social Investment Programmes, added that items like note books, stationeries should be provided for the children every session.
She said the NSIO should also ensure relevant stakeholders are involved in the review; redesign, implementation and monitoring of the NSIP.
According to him, assessment of cooks and locations for food preparation should be carried out prior to recruitment.
She called on the institutionalization of some of the NIP that have proven most impactful to ensure their continuity without being affected by the change in government.
Obi lauded the effort of the federal government for the introduction and implementation of the Social Investment Programs in a bid to lift the vulnerable out of poverty.
She noted that though the programme recorded some measure of success, it was riddled with unavoidable challenges.
